University Grant Commission (UGC) has been asked to go over the guidelines for intermediate and terminal semester examinations, due to outbreak of Novel coronavirus
Firstly it was an obvious recommendation in order to cancel the intermediate exams but now even the universities have been asked to cancel the final semester examination and decided that colleges to promote the students with average marks on the basis of their performances in previous year exams and internal assessments. Lakhs of students were supposed to take the final year examinations, setting up this examination as per there regular schedule will expose them to serious consequences of COVID-19.
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has written to PM Modi asking him to direct the respective organizations such as AICTE, COA, BCI, and UGC to inscribe the state’s decision to cancel final year university exams as the parents were so concerned over exam being conducted.
In different states, the number of coronavirus cases are different. Delhi is on the top of the list followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. So basically it was very difficult to organize the final exams in conventional mode.
State-wise alternatives over the final exam:
Delhi University examination department had decided to conduct an open-book online examination for final ones, which created mess between administration and students including teachers.
Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha have already decided to cancel all the final-year papers.
Haryana has also declared the cancellation of the exams, but Haryana Ministry gave an option to the Universities that, they can conduct exams in online mode if they wish to do so. But at last, they canceled the exams and claims to declare the results on the 7th of August.
Kerala university, till now has just postponed the exams.
Students of Lucknow University has demanded a massive promotion to next year .a group of Lucknow University students moved to the Allahabad High Court demanding to hold the examination.
Schools, colleges and other institutions will reopen soon, UNION HRD Ministry reveals :
It is probably believed that schools and colleges in India will reopen from or after the mid of August. UNION HRD Minister (Ramesh Nishank portrayal) has claimed that the reopening of all educational institutions as well as the results of both 10th and 12th will be declared by August 15. It seems everyone is not so sure about these decisions but still hoping this in August to happen.
