Google has introduced a new feature called Document Tabs to Google Docs subscribers, designed to improve the way you view, edit, and organize your files. This new feature expands on the famous “document outline” device, particularly enabling the handling of headlines. With Document Tabs, customers can now instantly add tabs to their files, making long documents much less challenging to navigate and organize.
Key Features of Document Tabs:
Add Tabs and Subtabs: Users can insert tabs like “Tab 1” without problems creating extra tabs or subtabs. This facilitates in breaking apart documents into sections, making it easier to leap among specific parts.
Linkable Tabs: Since tabs act as links, users can share specific sections of a file in preference to the complete document via sending a hyperlink to a tab.
Customizable Tab Names: You can personalize tab names and even use emojis to make them stand out.
When Will You See This Feature?
The Document Tabs feature rolled out in early October 2024. However, Google has announced that some customers will not see the replacement immediately as the full rollout will take time. This feature will become widely available by October 21, 2024, and should appear within 1-3 days for most customers.
This replacement is available to Google Workspace customers, Workspace Personal customers, and users with a personal Google loan.
How to Use Document Tabs:
Once enabled, users will see a new option called “Show tabs and details” in the web editor. Clicking on this may open an aspect column at the left, in which you can add tabs and visualize the shape of the document, consisting of the tabs and subtabs.
This new feature is expected to streamline report revisions, helping customers prepare and navigate large files more accurately.
